Choose the correct check-in plan
Pearson VUE test center
Pearson's CompTIA candidate information asks candidates to arrive 15 minutes early. Bring the identification required by the current ID policy and appointment email.
OnVUE online exam
Begin check-in 30 minutes early. Run the system test beforehand using the same computer, camera, microphone, network, and room.
Identification and appointment checks
- Your registration name must exactly match your accepted identification.
- Use current, valid original ID; digital, damaged, copied, or expired identification may be rejected.
- Read the CompTIA/Pearson VUE ID policy linked from your appointment because requirements can differ by delivery method and location.
- Confirm the date, time zone, delivery method, and exam code 220-1201 and 220-1202.
- Cancel or reschedule at least one business day before the appointment to avoid forfeiting the fee under the current candidate policy.
What the exam session looks like
Each core allows up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 90 minutes. Core 1 requires 675 and Core 2 requires 700 on the 100-900 scale.
Performance-based questions may appear near the beginning. Read the task, note every required outcome, and move on if the task is consuming disproportionate time. Flagged questions can be revisited if the exam interface permits it.
Final 24-hour checklist
Online testing rules that cause avoidable problems
OnVUE requires a quiet private space, one display, a working webcam, microphone, and speaker, and a stable connection. Phones, notes, paper, headphones, extra monitors, and people entering the room can invalidate the session. Follow the proctor and on-screen instructions even if they differ from a general checklist.
